The M1 Abrams is The Backbone of the United States Armys armored force. It's main gun is a 120mm Rhienmetal cannon. It has 3 machine guns, 2x M240B 7.62x51mm MGs and 1x 12.7x99mm M2 Browning. The M1 Abrams was invented to take on the latest Russian weaponry and be fuel economic at the same time.
M1 Abrams[]
The early models of the M1 where known as M1s and used a 105mm cannon. The M1s had so bad thermal vision that they used the thermal sights from M60A3s at the time. When the M1s went into production in such a hurry that the Engines where still being tested leading to problems with the gas turbine engines.
M1A1 Abrams[]
The M1A1 Abrams was the Successer of the early M1s. the M1A1 featured a 120mm Rhienmetal Cannon capable of hitting targets over 2 miles away. The M1A1 housed better thermal sights allowing it to see in sand storms and dusty conditions. It has better armer than the Early M1s including Chobham armor capable of taking a direct hit from a Sabot round. In the operation Desert Storm the M1A1s only suffered one loss due to a friendly fire incident from another tank which fiered a Sabot through the side Armer.
M1A2 Abrams[]
The M1A2 Abrams is simply the M1A1 with improved electronics and with extra sights for the comander.
M1A3[]
The M1A3 is currently under development.
Tusk[]
Tusk or Tank Urban Survival Kit is a Upgrade pacage for the M1A2. It feachers a PROTECTER machine gun mount for the Commander, allowing the commander to get a full view of every thing around the tank with out the need of the commander exposing him self. It also comes with ERA armnor for the side skerts and a blast shield for the loaders M240B.
M1s in Action[]
During the Gulf War at Battle of 73 Easting 2 companies of M1A1s killed at least 3 companies of Iraqi T-72s and BMP-1s with out losing a single tank from enemy fire.
During the Iraq war in 2003 18 M1s where damaged during the war. Some suffered by hits to the engines and filters and some where temporarily knocked out due to the sights and weapons damaged by enemy fire. Most suffered miner damage and the tank was back in action in less than a day. 3 where knocked out by enemy fire from RPGs and Shaped charges to the ammunition storage.
